Take an eclectic journey through Texas history in the shoes of lesser-known people and through forgotten events that have shaped our modern state. Mike Vance, Texas author and filmmaker, is your guide. We will explore one Texas Revolutionary hero from a different angle, learn about an oft-omitted Revolutionary leader, and hear a lost story or two from the City of Houston. Join us to experience Texas as never before!

On February 22nd, step into the shoes of a Texian soldier at San Jacinto for a program with a focus on one of the battle's most difficult aspects.

Witness our trained staff demonstrate how a cannon is safely loaded and fired and experience the thrill of live cannon fire every half hour!

San Jacinto Texas Independence Fun Run

Saturday 7 a.m. - 9 a.m.

The 14th annual San Jacinto Texas Independence Fun Run will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2025, beginning at 7:00 a.m. Join us to "Run the Battlefield!" and experience the historic grounds where Texas won its independence.

Bird Watching at the Battleground

Saturday 7 a.m. - 9 a.m.

The native prairie, tidal marsh, and bottomland forest appear much as they did during the Battle of San Jacinto and are home to more than 200 species of birds. The best time for birding is first thing in the morning, so the site will open two hours early so birders and photographers can enjoy early morning at the site, from 7:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M.

San Jacinto Family Day: Make a Cartridge Box

Saturday 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Industrialization in the early 19th century lead to mass-produced musket cartridges, which allowed the Mexican soldiers to fire faster than the Texian soldiers. Soldiers would carry these cartridges to battle in their own cartridge boxes. Learn more about 19th century innovations in ammunition and make your own cartridge box to take home.

Cycling Saturdays

Saturday 7 a.m. - 9 a.m.

The roads within the San Jacinto State Historic Site will open early for bicyclists. Travel our 7.5 miles of site roads and see the battleground where Texas was won at your own pace. No motorized vehicles will be allowed into the site during this time to promote safe bicycling.

Learn more about traditional spinning and weaving at a demonstration from the Bay Area Weavers and Spinners every second Saturday at the San Jacinto Museum.
