Remember Goliad!
Timing: Approximately 30 minutes, Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cost: Free
After the surrender at this site and unanticipated execution of Col. James W. Fannin during the Texas Revolution, the battle cry “Remember Goliad!” was born. Located about 10 miles east of Goliad, visitors can walk the landscaped grounds, view the impressive stone obelisk that honors the spot where Fannin surrendered, visit the interpretive exhibit, and picnic at the pavilion.
Group Tour
Battle of Coleto Creek
Capacity: 10-50 people, all participants must be over the age of 6
Timing: 45 minutes, Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cost: $5 per person
This guided walking tour will take your group around this Texas Revolution battlefield, where you’ll learn the tale of Colonel James W. Fannin and his men and see where they were surrounded by Mexican General Urrea, in what became known as the Battle of Coleto Creek. You’ll also learn about how Fannin Battleground was almost lost to time, had it not been for locals who remembered what happened here and fought to preserve this piece of Texas history.
Tour Reservations
Reservations for guided tours should be made at least one week in advance by calling 361-645-3752. Tours can be combined with a visit to Presidio La Bahia State Historic Site.
Facilities and Accessibility
Tours of the site take 30 minutes to one hour. All areas are wheelchair accessible, and visitor parking is available on site. Restroom facilities are located near the bandstand. There is no visitor center or gift shop at the site.
To help us with our preservation and conservation mission, and for the safety of our visitors, we ask that visitors respectfully refrain from climbing on the monuments and markers on site. Alcohol is not permitted on site and smoking is permitted only in the parking area. Pets are welcome on site provided they are kept on a leash. Pets are not permitted inside the buildings.
