Generations of families have celebrated their special occasions at the French Legation, the oldest recorded residence in Austin. Whether hosting an intimate dinner or an elaborate affair, the French Legation offers a historic gathering space for your guest in the heart of Austin. With over 2 acres of rolling green grounds in central downtown, the French Legation can host even the largest gatherings. Available for birthdays, baby showers, board meetings, rehearsal dinners, weddings, festivals, fundraisers, memorials, and more, let our historical site become part of your history.
Site Location Details
- Northwest Lawn: Close to the parking lot and site restrooms, this space offers a large flat and mainly sunny area for your setup. Space for up to 200 seated guests and a 40’x40’ tent.
- Lower Mall: Gently sloping and lined on both sides with mature crepe myrtle trees, the Lower Mall can accommodate up to 290 seated guests and a 30’ x 80’ tent.
- East Lawn: The largest event space at the site, ideal for outdoor concerts and larger tented events. This area provides a natural amphitheater and has shade throughout the day. Many different tent sizes and arrangements of guests can be accommodated in this area.
- Front Lawn: In front of the Legation building, this space can accommodate up to 160 seated guests and a 40’ x 40’ tent or 170 guests in theater-style seating. A popular site for weddings with the ceremony on the Legation front porch.
- Historic Legation Building: Limited availability and only for small events. Please inquire.
