All Texas Historical Commission (THC) jobs are posted within CAPPS Recruit, on the THC Jobs Page. CAPPS Recruit is a jobs portal that allows applicants to easily apply for job openings at the Texas Historical Commission.

• Visit the THC Jobs Page within CAPPS Recruit
• Select a position you wish to apply for and click the Apply Online button
• If you do not yet have a CAPPS Recruit account, click the New User button and proceed with account creation. Otherwise, enter your credentials and click Login
• Complete each section of the application, select the Save and Continue button to proceed
• If you need to save your application to complete it later, click the Save as Draft button
• Once each section has been completed, you will be given the ability to submit your application, which will then send it to the Texas Historical Commission
• You can check the status of your application, both drafts and submissions, at any time

Application Requirements

• Application must be completed and submitted through CAPPS Recruit
• Completed education and work history with detailed descriptions of duties performed
• Work history should reflect the minimum and preferred qualifications respective to the job in question
• College transcripts, licenses, certifications, etc. must be provided prior to start date
• Resumes are not accepted in lieu of a CAPPS application, however we encourage they be attached as supporting documents

Applications submitted through Work in Texas (WIT) must be completed in CAPPS Recruit. An automatic email will be sent to WIT applicants with instructions on how to complete their application in CAPPS.

Health Insurance

Health insurance for new state employees is effective the first day of the month following a 60-day waiting period. After this time, the state pays 100% for a full-time employee's health coverage and one half the premium for part-time employees. Dependent coverage is also available, and the state pays part of the premium.

Sick Time, Annual Leave, and Holidays

Full-time employees earn 96 hours of sick leave each year of state service and will earn a minimum of 96 hours a year of annual leave. As employment service continues, an employee's annual leave accrual increases, and the employee may also be eligible for longevity pay. Employees also get days off as indicated on the state holiday schedule maintained by the State Auditor’s Office.

Retirement Benefits 

State employees are required to participate in the Employees Retirement Systems (ERS) retirement program. Employees contribute a percentage of their gross salary to the retirement program, and the state contributes an equal amount. The State of Texas Retirement plan is a defined benefit plan that provides retired employees with a monthly payment (or annuity) for the rest of their lives. The retirement program and insurance program are administered by the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS). Supplemental retirement plans are also available through a Deferred Compensation Plan (457) and Texa$aver (401K) as well as a Roth option for both plans. All CAPPS Recruit job postings extend priority of service to veterans, a surviving spouse, orphan of a veteran who was killed while on active duty, spouse of a member of the US Armed Forces/Texas National Guard serving on active duty, or spouse of a veteran with a disability if the spouse is the primary income for the household.
