FREE FAMILY PROGRAM AT MISSION DOLORES

10 am—3:30 pm

Join us on Saturday, November 26th at Mission Dolores State Historic Site as we celebrate Native American Heritage Month with the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas!

Tribal members will give us a glimpse into Alabama-Coushatta culture through dance performances, drumming and traditional singing as well as sharing tribal history and stories, demonstrating beadwork and basket making and teaching interested attendees how to play stickball.  There will even be an exhibition stickball game!

 Schedule (subject to weather conditions):

 10:00am  Opening of Bead Work & Basket Demonstrations

10:30 Alabama-Coushatta History and Ties to East Texas

11:00am Stickball Demonstration

12:00pm Lunch

1:00pm-1:45pm Alabama-Coushatta Dance Performance

2:00pm Alabama-Coushatta Legends and Storytelling

2:45pm Stickball Demonstration

3:30pm Closing

 

From 11 am—1 pm, the Alabama-Coushatta will have “Indian Tacos” for sale.  Indian Tacos are hot frybread covered with a beans and meat mix topped with the usual taco toppings.
