Join us for one of the most spectacular celestial events of 2023 at Fort McKavett! At approximately 11:48 am, the "ring of fire" will be visible from the Fort Parade Ground for nearly 5 minutes, making the site one of the best viewing places in the country for this eclipse. Astronomers from the Johnson Space Center Astronomical Society (JSCAS) will give presentations on eclipses and there will be fun activities for the whole family throughout the day! Bring a picnic lunch and plan to stay a while to enjoy the wonders of the celestial plane!
After sunset, be sure to join us again for spectacular nighttime views of the stars at one of the darkest places in Texas! The JSCAS will have high-powered telescopes set up for looking into the heavens to gaze at the incredible bodies of the galaxy! Nighttime admission for the Star Party is free, the site will remain open until midnight.
