Oral history is a powerful tool for capturing the experiences of individuals and serves as an important piece of the historical record. The Oral History Program at THC serves multiple purposes ranging from providing training to the conducting and preserving of real stories of our fellow Texans. THC staff, consultants, and volunteers have collected oral histories since 1971 and have amassed a collection of more than 300 interviews which are now available digitally. Many of these interviews were the result of special projects or topics such as commemorative anniversaries or specialized fields like archeology. THC's Oral History and Military History Programs share the same staff. If you are interested in discussing training, project planning, or have questions about our collection, please contact us at militaryhistory@thc.texas.gov or (512) 463-5833.
