Tour Options:
Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site offers groups 3 different sites to tour: The Star of the Republic Museum, Barrington Plantation, and Independence Hall. To schedule a tour, please submit the Adult Tour Request Form.
Star of the Republic Museum - Currently Closed for Renovation
The tour at the museum is an hour and begins with a 30-minute introductory movie of Independence: A Lone Star Rises. Once the movie is over the rest of your time may be spent viewing the exhibits on the first and second floor on your own. A staff member will be at the front desk to answer any questions you may have.
Barrington Plantation
The farm is also an hour long self-guided tour. Your group may visit Anson Jones’ home, the outdoor kitchen, two slave cabins, the barn where the oxen are kept, and the hog pen. The farm staff will be dressed in clothing from the period and will tell you all about living on a farm in the 1850’s. The farm is outside and quite a bit of walking is required.
Independence Hall
Independence Hall is a replica of the building where the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed. A tour guide will take you inside the building where you will have a 30-45-minute tour to learn about the historic significance of the hall.
Fanthorp Inn
We also have guided tours available at Fanthorp Inn in Anderson, a 30-minute drive from Washington-on-the-Brazos.
The Fanthorp Inn is a historic stagecoach stop and inn which operated from 1834-1868. During this 40 min guided tour you will experience what travel was like during the days of the Republic and discover why they called the Fanthorp Inn "the finest inn in the South". Please complete the Fanthorp Inn Tour reservation form to schedule your tour!
Tour Fees:
The fees for the tours are a flat rate of $6.00 per person.
Picnic:
The site has very nice picnic area available for groups. The area has a large amount of uncovered picnic tables however if your group would like one of the covered pavilions, they may be rented by either marking it on the reservation form or calling Stephanie Busa at 936-878-2214 x 222.
Tour Requirements:
Scheduled tours must be made two weeks in advance. Tours are given Wednesday through Friday and can begin as early as 10:00 a.m. Tour groups must have a minimum of 20 people.
