Red, White, and Blue Holiday Program: Dyeing with Cochineal

Join us as we celebrate 4th of July weekend with a themed program series: Red, White, and Blue at San Felipe de Austin! On Friday, July 4th, we focus on the color red by dyeing with cochineal; an insect used to produce red dye for millennia!

Bird Watching at the Battleground

Saturday 7 a.m. - 9 a.m.

The native prairie, tidal marsh, and bottomland forest appear much as they did during the Battle of San Jacinto and are home to more than 200 species of birds. The best time for birding is first thing in the morning, so the site will open two hours early so birders and photographers can enjoy early morning at the site, from 7:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M.

Join us as we celebrate 4th of July weekend with a themed program series: Red, White, and Blue at San Felipe de Austin! On Saturday, July 5th, we focus on the color blue by dyeing with indigo: the standard in blue dye throughout history!

Victorian Dinner at the Mansion

Saturday 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Join us and take part in a long-awaited event as you enjoy delicious Victorian-era inspired entrees in the gorgeous Fulton Mansion dining room. Seats are $150 each, gratuity to the chef is not included. This includes your , appetizer, soup, salad, Surf and Turf entree and dessert. You will be entertained with a magic lantern demonstration. The magic lantern, also known by its Latin name lanterna magica, is an early type of image projector that uses pictures—paintings, prints, or photographs—on transparent plates (usually made of glass), one or more lenses, and a light source.

The Lighthouse Establishment Cinema at the Port Isabel Lighthouse State Historic Site offers a family tradition dating back to 2004. Movies are projected on the side of the historic Port Isabel Lighthouse. This is a free public event. Bring your comfy outdoor chairs or spread a blanket and settle in for this unique cinematic experience. The Lighthouse is open until 9 p.m.

Cycling Saturdays

Saturday 7 a.m. - 9 a.m.

The roads within the San Jacinto State Historic Site will open early for bicyclists. Travel our 7.5 miles of site roads and see the battleground where Texas was won at your own pace. No motorized vehicles will be allowed into the site during this time to promote safe bicycling.
