Tejana Women Roles and Lifestyles during the time of the Texas Revolution with Amy M. Porter
Saturday 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.Tejanas were the backbone of Spanish Texas society. Their roles in their families and in their communities have been obscured by archival evidence that focuses on government and public institutions. Yet, glimpses of the womens experiences appear in the documents as well as artifacts and family histories. Life in early Texas was tough, and women persisted through hardship and violence. The Texas Revolution was no exception as Tejanas experienced the Siege of Béxar and the Alamo as well as the changes brought with independence and then incorporation into the United States. Through all of the tumult, Tejanas persisted, maintained their family stories, and contributed to the culture and economy of Texas. This presentation will offer insights into the experiences of Tejanas before, during, and after Texas independence focusing on broad patterns as well as telling individual stories of remarkable women.

Demo Day: Toy Touch Table
Saturday 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.Come have fun with the toys of the past and learn about frontier childhood inside of the San Jacinto Monument. 19th century toy replicas will be available to touch and play with at our Toy Touch Table. Suitable for all ages, this is free with purchase of admission.
Birdwatching at the Battleground
Saturday 7 a.m. - 9 a.m.First Saturday of every month
The site will open two hours early so birders and photographers can enjoy early morning at the site, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. The site is open to vehicles, but please be respectful of those enjoying the wildlife and keep noise to a minimum. Enter at the gates off Vista Road or Independence Parkway.
San Jacinto Family Day: Monument Memories
Saturday 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.Educators will explore the topic of memorialization while encouraging participants to create their own memories at the monument. Participants will receive a coloring page to decorate with the various stories, artifacts, names, etc., to remember from their visit to the monument that day.
SPARK! Pioneer Cooking
Tuesday 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.Through discussion and hands-on activities, participants will learn how meals were prepared in the 1830s and create their own spice sachet to take home. For people living with memory loss.
Cycling Saturdays
Saturday 7 a.m. - 9 a.m.The roads within the San Jacinto State Historic Site will open early for bicyclists. Travel our 7.5 miles of site roads and see the battleground where Texas was won at your own pace. No motorized vehicles will be allowed into the site during this time to promote safe bicycling.
Spinning and Weaving
Saturday 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.Learn more about traditional spinning and weaving at a demonstration from the Bay Area Weavers and Spinners every second Saturday at the San Jacinto Museum.
