Join us Saturday, May 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Varner‑Hogg Plantation State Historic Site for an engaging “Page to the Stage” workshop led by Naomi Carrier, playwright, performer, author, and founder of the Texas Center for African American Living History.

This hands-on program is designed for museum educators, interpreters, reenactors, and historic site professionals who want to strengthen their skills in creating meaningful and historically grounded performances. Naomi will guide participants through the process of transforming primary and secondary sources into compelling scripts, building authentic characters, and presenting stories that connect with today’s cultural and heritage tourists.

Naomi brings decades of experience in living history theater, beginning with her acclaimed musical I Am Annie Mae, which is archived at the Smithsonian. Her extensive work with historic sites across Texas has helped shape how visitors experience the past. The workshop emphasizes that people, rather than artifacts or settings alone, bring history to life.
