Join us on December 19th at 6 PM for the opening of our new temporary exhibit, Border Ballads: Songs of Struggle. The exhibit will focus on the corridos of the 1800s and early 1900s, and what they tell us about history.
These border ballads give us insight into the perspective of Mexicans living along the border in a time of great change. The borderlands of Texas changed as control over the territory shifted from Mexican to American hands, greatly impacting the people who lived there. New settlers started moving south, creating conflict with those that already lived there. These songs let us see how Mexicans living along the border responded to this change and what their general sentiments to these settlers were.
This event is included with museum admission. Advance registration not required.
