Join the Sites for a special Author Talk and Q&A session with Sam W. Haynes, professor and author of several acclaimed works in Texas history, including Soldiers of Misfortune: The Somervell and Mier Expeditions (1990) and his most recent book, Unsettled Land: From Revolution to Republic, the Struggle for Texas (2022). The talk and Q&A will be held outdoors on the grounds of Monument Hill State Historic Site.
Both of these titles feature histories of the Dawson and Mier Expeditions. Books will be available for sale and signing at the sites' Visitors Center.
