Discover new ways to connect communities workshop. Join museum professionals, archaeologists, and educators for this two part workshop split between the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum and French Legation State Historic Site in Austin for a day of practical training focused on creating meaningful and effective public archaeology programs.
Participants will explore proven outreach strategies and educational resources that bring archaeology to life for learners of all ages. The workshop will be facilitated by Jamie A. Ross, Texas Historical Commission's Archeological Collections Manager, and will include presentations from experienced outreach practitioners focused on creating engaging community booths, using archeology as a framework to teach across disciplines, and utilizing displayed artifacts and museum exhibits to foster discussions about the past.
In the afternoon, attendees will take part in hands-on activities at the historic French Legation State Historic Site, where they will experience outreach methods firsthand and gain ideas they can adapt for their own organizations and communities.
